This Open Bluegrass Jam is open to all levels and ages and generally takes place on the 3rd Sunday of each month. There is a bar on site that serves alcohol, soft drinks, snacks and pizzas. All proceeds from bar sales benefit American Legion Post 42 and the many veterans and veterans organizations they serve.

In Memory of JR Simpson June 27, 1955-November 10, 2019
JR Simpson was a tireless jammer and supporter of Bluegrass music in Chicagoland and Evanston in particular. He played Guitar, Bass and banjo and was one of the most active members of the Evanston Bluegrass music community. His smile and laugh were infectious and the enthusiasm he brought to everything he did including playing bluegrass and folk music rubbed off on everyone around him. He inspired others to get involved in playing and becoming part of the bluegrass community and helped make it a place that people felt welcome and warm. Along with Jeff Burke, he helped found the Monthly Evanston Open Bluegrass Jam at American Legion Post 42, which was renamed after his passing in 2019 to honor his memory. He will be dearly missed.
